Labial brace
This brace is worn on the outer surface of the teeth and comes in either metallic or ceramic (tooth coloured) brackets. Also know as a fixed wire brace, or train tracks to teenagers!
Lingual brace
This brace is placed on the inner surface of the teeth and therefore cannot be seen. However as it encroaches slightly on your tongue space it can cause discomfort while speaking and eating for a couple of months.
Functional brace
This is a removable brace, which is used when the top jaw is a different size from the lower jaw. It helps the smaller jaw to catch up in size with the larger jaw and improve your profile. The brace clips over the top and bottom teeth.
Clear positioners (Invisalign)
These are a series of removable braces. The brace totally covers the tooth surface and is made of thin plastic material. As the material is see through the braces are less noticeable than some other types of brace. Please click here for more details on Invisalign.
The positioners move the teeth from the current position to the correct position. The positioners need to be changed every 2 weeks.
Damon braces
Damon braces are the latest technology and use low friction mechanics which means quicker treatment appointments as well as four to six months less treatment time. These braces are often found to be very comfortable.
Removable retainer
Removable retainers are made of colored plastic that goes behind the teeth with a wire that goes along the front of the teeth.
Fixed bonded retainer
This is a wire attached to the inner surface of the teeth to hold them in place.
